Materials Controller – BOM Management, parts control, and technical purchasing.

Position Summary:

Our vehicle includes thousands of parts, and you will be tasked with ensuring that we will always have the right parts in manufacture, and in the right quantity. You will use our ODOO ERP system to manage the maintenance of the bill of materials for the entire life cycle of the product – including managing changes in design revision and obsolescence.  You will record, analyse, and report budget status versus actual costs, and provide back up to our technical purchasing function for metallic and composite components.

Specific tasks include:

  • Manage the maintenance of the project Bill of Materials from kick-off to delivery.
  • Work with CAD/PLM and Program Planner to co-ordinate component and assembly design releases into the ERP system.
  • Manage design change within ERP – up-rev and obsolescence.
  • Collaborate with Program Planning and build departments to ensure part availability in line with the needs of the business.
  • Report the analysis of budget v actual cost.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Engineering to identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Forecast material usage / cost for the full project life cycle of new and existing projects.
  • Work with CAD/PLM and Head of Supply Chain to develop BoM, workflow tools and associated digital interfaces.
  • Deputise for Head of Supply Chain as necessary.
  • Build strong relationships with external suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Source metallic and composite components within budget and delivery time targets, balancing cost, quality process efficiency.
  • Manage suppliers’ performance on cost, quality, and delivery times.

Skills Required:

  • Experience of managing BoM creation and maintenance using MRP/ERP software.
  • Experience of creating and maintaining complex technical bills of materials.
  • High level of technical understanding, including the interpretation of technical drawings and composite lay-up manuals.
  • MCIPS (or working towards) with a minimum of 3-5 years working in technical purchasing.
  • Proven experience of purchasing mechanical and composite parts in a dynamic and high stress environment USING
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate calmly and effectively at all levels.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in niche Automotive or Motorsport BoM, Cost control and/or technical purchasing.
  • Experience of ODOO ERP system.
