How to Build a McMurtry: Part 3 – Suspension, Tyres & Cooling

  • Next steps revealed in behind-the-scenes film of first production-spec Spéirling PURE assembly
  • First ever look at Spéirling suspension setup, designed and built in-house
  • More efficient cooling system allows for longer running time
  • Wider off-the-shelf slick tyres fitted, capable of 3.5G cornering, 4G braking
  • Additional production-spec improvements detailed, including wider cockpit opening
  • 1000bhp, Downforce-on-DemandTM, electric hyper track car designed and built at new McMurtry factory in Cotswolds, England
  • First customer deliveries of the Spéirling PURE to begin later in 2026

The first production-spec Spéirling PURE is fast approaching completion. Come behind-the-scenes at McMurtry’s new factory in the Cotswolds as the latest in a series of films documenting the electric hyper track car’s build progress is released.

Join Matt Best – Trackside Electronics Engineer, and Jakob Manfredi – Mechanical Design Engineer in ‘How to Build a McMurtry: Part 3’ as they guide you through the latest production-spec parts fitted, plus upgrades made to the Spéirling PURE.

For the first time, the Spéirling PURE’s suspension system – designed and built in-house – is shown in all its glory. Given the small dimensions of the car, McMurtry’s engineers face a challenge to package ultra-high-performance suspension components in a tight space under the carbon bodywork, but it’s a challenge they relish. Springs and dampers, plus anti-roll bars and rockers, have been engineered to perform with the car’s 2000KG of Downforce-on-DemandTM from standstill – unlike any car ever created.

The car’s powertrain cooling system has moved from the rear to the front of the car, bringing dual benefits in efficiency and aerodynamics. Despite the production-spec Spéirling PURE growing slightly in size to accommodate a larger 100kWh battery, airflow across the car and through its rear tunnels is much cleaner. This generates less drag, meaning customers can run the car for even longer.

Also at the front of the car, two radiators have now become one. Larger in size but 20% lighter than the two radiators combined found on Spéirling prototypes, significant efficiency gains have been made to the car’s cooling system.

The production-spec Spéirling PURE makes use of off-the-shelf slick Michelin tyres that are now 10% wider than the tyres used to set the Top Gear Test Track lap record in 2025. As a result, cornering forces have increased from 3G to 3.5G, with braking forces at 4G.

To further aid entry and exit into the Spéirling PURE’s carbon fibre, single-seater monocoque, the door opening size has also increased in width.

About McMurtry:

McMurtry is a UK-based electric hypercar manufacturer founded in 2016 by engineering pioneer Sir David McMurtry. Our vision is bold but simple: to build vehicles focused purely on driving exhilaration. Not just for professional racers, but for anyone passionate about pushing limits.

The elite team created the record-breaking Spéirling – a revolutionary fan car delivering 3G cornering via 2000kg of confidence-inspiring downforce available from 0mph. It has shattered outright records at the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb and the Top Gear Test Track against F1 cars.

It isn’t just fast – it’s empowering. Lightweight, agile, and shockingly quick in corners, it puts pro-level performance in the hands of any passionate driver. Testing continues on iconic circuits as worldwide customer deliveries approach in 2026.
