Quality Manager – Define and manage our first enterprise-wide QA function.

Position Summary:

Quality is at the heart of everything we do, and as we transition from R&D to serial production, this role will be expected to provide leadership across the entire enterprise for all matters pertaining to quality. You will help define this new role and equip yourself with the necessary resources to achieve and maintain ISO9001 accreditation. You will carry out goods inwards and in service inspection, including NDT, of both metallic and composite components.

Specific tasks include:

  • Provide quality leadership for the entire enterprise, with end-to-end responsibility for the entire life cycle of all products.
  • Define, implement, and continually improve the necessary processes and procedures that may be required to perform the quality function.
  • Define, implement, and maintain an ISO9001 Quality Management System.
  • Define, implement, and manage the nonconformance, concession and scrap processes.
  • Predict and manage KPI’s for quality performance and cost of defects. Drive year on year improvement in both process and product quality.
  • Lead the technical management of issues found throughout the life cycle of the product and engage with engineering to drive issue resolution and prevent recurrence.
  • Audit, inspect and report on supplier quality performance, and formulate plans for continuous improvement in the external supply chain.
  • Geometrically validate all manufactured and procured components using various gauging, including a programmable CMM.
  • Perform the Inspection of finished and in process composite components, using a 7-axis laser scanner.
  • Write efficient inspection programs within the Polyworks metrology suite.
  • Management of the storage, maintenance, and calibration of all metrology equipment within the business.
  • Provide NDT mentoring and support – Magnetic particle, Penetrant & Ultrasonic testing.
  • Provide laser marking support – product identification and serial numbering.

Skills Required:

  • Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5-10 years working in Quality Assurance roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Proven ‘hands-on’ QA experience within a Formula One, Tier 1 Automotive or Aerospace environment.
  • Direct, recent, and extensive ‘hands-on’ experience of inspecting mechanical and composite parts in a dynamic and high stress environment.
  • High level of technical understanding, including the interpretation of technical drawings and composite lay-up manuals.
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience in, the implementation and maintenance of an ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Excellent analytical skills and wide experience of the practical use of statistical analysis.
  • Good knowledge of quality tools such as 8D problem solving, FMEA, APQP etc. and their practical use in a high technology engineering environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate calmly and effectively at all levels.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Desirable:

  • Qualified as ISO9001 Lead Auditor.
  • Previous experience of working in an aerospace/F1 composites manufacturing facility.
  • Previous experience of working in an aerospace/F1 precision machining facility.
