Track Test Engineer

Curating and delivering robust test plans, analysis and reports

Position Summary:

The Track Test Engineer will be the vital link between the factory-based engineers and trackside operations.  You will be expected to take a proactive approach to generating tests to evaluate a range of the cutting-edge systems on vehicle.  You will write test plans before a test to validate performance, durability and usability of the car and car systems using input from engineering stakeholders.  You will attend track tests to ensure robust data collection, adapting to lessons learnt.   And vitally, report back key findings to the team with data driven reports.

Specific tasks include:

  • Gathering and documenting requirements for testing from mechanical, electrical and control engineering teams
  • Curating testing plans for the Spéirling and future vehicles to ensure that test objectives can be met.
  • Communicating the test plan to engineering functions in advance of a test for review
  • Being present at tests and monitoring data and outcomes live. Reacting to new data when required and modifying testing plans.
  • Reviewing data after the event to extract all possible value from the data produced.
  • Logging faults and opportunities identified during the test
  • Reporting on test outcomes, conclusions drawn and logging mileage accumulation of subsystems
  • Reviewing test data against engineering simulations and reporting on accuracy

Skills Required:

  • A relevant degree level qualification
  • Strong grounding in engineering including a good technical understanding of major systems on an EV.
  • Enthusiasm about new technologies and problem solving in an automotive/motorsport environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to capture testing requirements and working with a team to deliver conclusions.
  • Experience creating or running test programmes and monitoring data, whilst in an automotive or motorsport environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be organised & thorough in identifying and documenting outcomes and reporting them in an appropriate manner.
