During McMurtry’s recent tour of Denmark with Scandinavian dealer partner, MY GARAGE, the Spéirling PURE VP1 set back-to-back outright lap records at Jyllandsringen and Padborg Park circuits with two non-professional drivers at the wheel.
At Jyllandsringen – Denmark’s premier racing track – in an open track session and driven by a private McMurtry customer, the Spéirling PURE VP1 set a time of 1min 02.16sec, beating the previous outright record held by a professionally-driven Formula 4 car by over two seconds. What’s more, the Spéirling PURE VP1 was only set to half-downforce (1000kg) and half-power (500bhp), and had to navigate traffic throughout the lap, overtaking many cars in the process.
As the country’s only FIA-approved Grade 4 circuit, Jyllandsringen hosts national formula, touring and endurance championships as well as public track days. The 2.3km layout features 16 corners including multiple tight sections which favour the Spéirling PURE’s unmatched low and medium-speed cornering abilities, pulling up to 3G.
Less than 48 hours prior, at Padborg Park circuit in the south of Denmark, Marcus Berggren – founder and Editor-in-Chief of Sweden’s largest digital media outlet dedicated to cars, Högsta Växeln – set a new outright record of 54.30sec. during only his second test session of the day in the car.
Also with no professional racing experience and experiencing the Spéirling PURE VP1 for the first time, Marcus beat the previous record set by a Porsche GT3 R racing car by over three seconds, reaching 241kph/150mph on the back straight.
The son of the owner of Padborg Park also held an unofficial lap record in a Formula 1 car (1997 Lola T97/30) with a time of 56sec, but the Spéirling PURE VP1 beat this, too.
Padborg Park’s 2.07km of asphalt opened in 2003, and is another mainstay of Danish track action, having hosted the Danish Touring Car Championship, Denmark Touring Car Series, Super GT Denmark and Nordic 4 Championship. With a long back straight before hard braking into a hairpin left, the Spéirling PURE’s 4g braking capability can truly be experienced.
