Public Debut – McMurtry Spéirling PURE unveiled at 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed supported by demo runs of the record holding car.

  • The McMurtry Spéirling PURE track car global reveal was met with exceptional feedback at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
  • The Spéirling PURE VP1 was on display in the Supercar paddock.
  • The record holding car ran demo runs across the weekend, demonstrating its blistering pace and dominance of the Hillclimb course.
  • Both Alex Summers and Max Chilton shared driving duties in both wet and dry conditions.
  • Customers and strategic partners joined across the whole weekend, making it a real celebration of McMurtry’s progress one year on since breaking the record at the same venue.

This year is the celebration of 75 years of motorsport at Goodwood and 30 years since the Festival of Speed started.  McMurtry were proud to attend FoS this year, now forever intertwined with Goodwood’s illustrious motorsport history.

It is now hard to visit Goodwood Festival of Speed without someone mentioning ‘have you seen THAT car?’ and saying ‘it looks like its on fast forward’.   They are referring to the silver McMurtry Spéirling famed for taking the outright hill record in 2022 with Max Chilton at the wheel.

A year on, McMurtry were back and with a bigger presence.  A new stand in the supercar paddock housed the global reveal of the Spéirling PURE.   A track only evolution of record holding car, which is available to order.   With wider tyres, an enhanced powertrain, better cooling and a lighter chassis, it is more capable in every way.  Displayed in a light blue with white pinstripe detailing, the subtle livery clothed probably the most extreme performing car on the entire estate.   A bold statement considering the calibre of automotive excellence on display.

Invited guests, new clients and strategic partners visited the McMurtry Spéirling PURE stand to learn more from the very people responsible for leading its creation.  Thomas Yates, managing director, Kevin Ukoko-Rongione, Chief Designer and George Scholz, Head of Mechanical Design and Vehicle Dynamics and Chris Martin, Head of Battery, were on hand to answer questions first hand alongside Chris Isaac, head of sales.

Both test drivers, Alex Summers and Max Chilton were on hand to explain the sensations and feel of driving McMurtry vehicles, alongside media duties and meeting fans.    Alex has driven for McMurtry at all 3 Festival of Speeds we have attended, ever since the cars debut alongside Derek Bell in 2021.    And Max was proud to return to the venue he visited since he was 4 years old, but this time as the reigning champion and record holder.

At the opposite end of the venue, was the record holding 2022 McMurtry Spéirling.  It was to be found in the F1 pit lane, rubbing shoulders with the iconic teams of Grand Prix racing, many of whom have trained McMurtry engineers along the way including Williams and Mercedes.

There were many spectators who had travelled to visit FoS specifically to see the car after the ripples it sent through the car community. This was a heart-warming experience for the team onsite.

The car ran demo runs in the mixed weather conditions.  In fact, the wet running further highlighted the performance delta possible with a fan car compared to conventional cars.

Unfortunately, Saturday was cancelled by the organisers due to concerns over high winds but on Sunday the event returned in full force.

The class of 2023 completed their timed Sunday shootout, and it was clear McMurtry’s record would remain untouched.

Soon after Max Chilton performed a stunning demonstration in the dry, with crowds audibly moved by what they were witnessing.    Soon followed a ‘burnout’ run with the downforce fan system turned off, to showcase the instant torque available under his right foot.
