Top Gear award McMurtry Automotive ‘Moment of the Year’ at famed annual ceremony

In 39.08s, the McMurtry Spéirling catapulted into the record books as it stormed the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb to claim the outright record this summer, beating a 23 year record set by an F1 car.

This moment transcended the automotive world: the record run was #1 trending on all of YouTube when the world was asking ‘What the heck was that? It looks like the video was on fast forward”

The Top Gear team deemed the Spéirling’s rise to fame on that Sunday afternoon as a defining moment in their hearts and heads, resulting in this accolade.

Company founder Sir David McMurtry, managing director Thomas Yates and record-breaking driver Max Chilton, were in attendance at an exclusive ceremony in London on Tuesday night to collect the award amongst a crowd of contemporaries from global car brands. The award was presented by Chris Harris and Jack Rix, both of Top Gear fame, from TV and magazine respectively.

Chris Harris enthused “This really was something rather spectacular.”

Jack Rix described it as “transcending the norm and bursting out of the petrolhead algorithm and into the mainstream. Millions of people watched it. It was no longer a run, it was automotive history”.

Max Chilton said “The Top Gear team travel the world to visit the best automotive events.  They have their finger on the pulse of all significant moments in the automotive industry.  So out of all of the four wheeled action across the globe this year, it’s a real privilege to receive this award for our teams achievement. It’s great to have the record breaking car here on display at the Top Gear awards aswell, to be able to show the petrol and electro heads in attendance the car up close.”

Thomas Yates said “Goodwood provided our first moment on the world stage to demonstrate ‘never seen before’ track performance, the McMurtry way.  We are showing how a compact car with a footprint similar to a 1960’s Grand Prix Car, packed with our latest EV and chassis technology, completely integrated with our downforce-on-demand fan system,  can be a truly exciting prospect for drivers and their car collections.  We’re now developing a limited run, road legal version for collectors building upon the record breaking and now multiple award winning McMurtry Spéirling. The future is very exciting”.

Amongst the guest list were other industry leaders Mate Rimac, Christian Von Koenigsegg & Gordon Murray to name a few.

The record breaking and award winning Spéirling was unmissable on display outside the ceremony at White City House, neighbouring the BBC Studios, and created a focal point for guests and the public.
